SEND YOUR CAR BACK
A law dating back to the 1930s that was designed to protect poor farmers allows you to send your car back to the finance company and buy a new vehicle. Under voluntary termination rules, anyone who has a hire purchase agreement can hand back the product at any time if they pay off half the debt. As cars often lose more than half their value after two and a half years, you can end up with a loan worth more than the car. That’s the time to send it back.

The government is being pressured by loan companies to change the law, naturally. But it works for now, as the Financial Times reported.
